The cheapest way to bring a garden back after winter is to separate the waste from the work. Gardeners charge by the hour, and an hour spent dragging branches to a corner is an hour not spent pruning.
Do it in this order:
- Structural items first: dead fence panels, a rotten shed, broken decking. These are heavy and take the most space.
- Then cut hedges, shrubs and climbers, adding everything to the same pile.
- Lift turf and weeds last, so you are not treading mud back through cleared areas.
- Sort into three piles: green waste, timber, and general.
- Bag anything light that will blow away.
- Double-bag rubble, and keep it separate from green waste.
- Sweep the patio last.
- Book the removal for the day before the gardener arrives.
That last point is the one people skip, and it is the one that saves the most money.
We take garden waste in Richmond and Twickenham as single-load jobs, and we run larger post-winter clears in Wimbledon where a shed and a run of fence panels come out together.
If you would rather not sort it yourself, we will do the whole clearance including the cutting, and you can book the gardener for the planting instead.
