London coverage

2 questions

The Junk Squad operates across 26 London boroughs including the City of London, from Enfield down to Croydon and from Heathrow out to Bexley, and the Thames-side and south-west boroughs in between — including all Central London postcodes SW1, W1, EC, WC, N1 and SE1. We also cover our Surrey districts: Guildford, Woking, Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead, Elmbridge, and Spelthorne.

Yes. We regularly cover outer London suburbs including Barnet, Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Bromley, Bexley, Enfield, Kingston, Sutton, and Croydon. For Surrey towns (Guildford, Woking, Weybridge, Epsom, Reigate) and Berkshire borders, check the postcode checker on our quote form or send us a message — we normally quote within the hour.

Pricing & payment

5 questions

Pricing is based on the volume of waste we load (typically quoted by the van load equivalent or tiered by part load / half load / full load), plus any extra labour for dismantling, carry-down from floors without a lift, CPZ bay suspensions, or specialist disposal such as fridges that require WEEE degassing or mattress treatment. We quote fixed, all-inclusive prices from photos or a short survey — never charge hourly, and never add surprise extras on the day.

For single bulky items (sofas, mattresses, wardrobes, fridge-freezers) our per-item uplift service is usually cheaper than a skip, and much faster than council bulky waste which can wait 4–6 weeks. Minimum load starts at £50. Send a photo via WhatsApp and we'll send a fixed, no-haggle quote within the hour.

Most London boroughs only offer free kerbside collection for the standard household wheelie-bin, and charge for separate bulky-item uplifts (typically £30–£70 per item with 3–6 week lead times). The Junk Squad is a paid, licensed commercial operator, but for small loads our prices are often comparable to or cheaper than the council service — and same-day, not weeks later.

The Junk Squad is not VAT registered, so all prices quoted are exclusive of VAT — meaning the figure you're given is the figure you pay, with no 20% VAT add-on at checkout. This generally saves customers 15–20% compared to VAT-registered operators quoting ex-VAT prices.

We accept all major UK debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) via our secure booking form, bank transfer (BACS or Faster Payments), and cash on the day if preferred. Card payments via Stripe are 3-D Secure and fully SCA compliant. Deposits are only requested on commercial, probate, or large multi-day clearances.

Booking, slots & arrival

4 questions

Yes — same-day and next-day slots are available across most of London, especially for Wait & Load, single-item uplifts, and end-of-tenancy turnarounds. Same-day bookings close at 13:00 and are subject to crew availability in the borough. Priority same-day bookings can often be with you within 90 minutes in central postcodes.

For standard clearances (part load / small office / few bulky items) 24–48 hours is usually enough. For full house clearances, probate jobs, or commercial strip-outs we recommend 3–7 days so we can allocate the right crew size and arrange any required lift access, parking suspensions, or scaffolding.

The crew will call or WhatsApp you 15–30 minutes before arrival on the booked day. If you cannot be there we can normally collect from a pre-agreed location (kerbside, garage, communal bin store) with photos of the load point sent in advance. In the rare case we're running over 60 minutes late we'll call you directly and can reschedule the slot for the same day or another day at no extra cost.

No — most customers don't attend. Simply leave the items in a pre-agreed accessible spot (kerbside, driveway, back garden, shared hallway that a porter can access) and send photos in advance. Payment is taken securely online before the crew leaves, so no need to meet in person or leave cash.

How the job works

4 questions

On your booked slot a two-person crew arrives in a caged tipper van, parks at (or as close as legally possible to) your load point, then manually loads everything by hand. We dismantle any flat-pack furniture that won't fit whole, sweep up after we finish, and drive directly to the transfer station. You get a digital waste transfer note by email within 24 hours — the whole job typically takes 20–90 minutes depending on load size.

Yes. Wardrobes, bed frames, ottomans, three-seater sofas, and Ikea flat-pack items are routinely dismantled on site before loading — free of charge as long as standard tools (screwdrivers, hex keys) are sufficient. For built-in wardrobes, MDF stud walls, or structural joinery we can quote separately for a dismantle-and-remove day rate.

Yes. We carry down from any floor level without lift access — this is standard for Central London mansion blocks. Carry-down labour is priced per-floor for jobs above the 3rd floor walk-up and quoted clearly in advance so you know exactly what you're paying. No surprise stair surcharges on the day.

We drive directly to a licensed Waste Transfer Station registered with the Environment Agency. On arrival the load is weighed, sorted, and hand-segregated into recycling streams (cardboard, metals, wood chip, hard plastics, garden compost, WEEE, plasterboard). Residual unrecyclable waste goes to an EfW (energy-from-waste) incinerator with heat recovery, not to landfill. Every job gets a unique digital waste transfer note with landfill diversion % stated.

Items we can & cannot take

5 questions

Household furniture, carpets, white goods, garden waste, builders rubble, soil and hardcore, office furniture, WEEE electricals, trade waste from builders, end-of-tenancy turnarounds, and most small commercial loads. We accept mixed loads with multiple waste types in the same trip.

We cannot take standalone asbestos of any form, clinical / medical / biohazard waste, un-drained fuel tanks or liquid fuels, chemical drums, solvents, pesticides, swimming pool chemicals, or radioactive material. For paint tins, gas bottles, fluorescent tubes, car batteries, and tyres we accept sealed / packaged units with a small specialist-disposal surcharge — ask for a quote.

Yes. Fridges, freezers, dehumidifiers, and AC units contain ozone-depleting F-gases (R134a, R600a), so we use a specialist WEEE-approved treatment partner with certified F-gas degassing. A surcharge of £30–£70 per unit covers the Environment Agency mandated treatment, and you'll receive a consignee note confirming legal destruction.

Yes. We collect single, double, king, super-king, and cot-bed mattresses. All mattresses go to an approved mattress recycling plant where the steel springs, textile layers, and foam are mechanically separated and recovered — nothing goes to landfill when processed correctly. A surcharge of £25–£50 per mattress applies depending on size and number.

Yes. Plasterboard must be bagged separately (or sheeted and stacked) as it requires dedicated gypsum recovery (cannot go into general waste at most transfer stations). Bricks, concrete, tiles, stone, and soil can be loose or in rubble sacks. Heavy inert (soil, concrete) is priced per tonne, not per load, as van weight limits apply.

Boroughs, CPZ & permits

5 questions

In Kensington W8, RBKC enforces daytime loading bans on many residential streets between 08:30–18:30 Mon–Sat. The Junk Squad holds a waste operator exemption for short loading windows, but for larger jobs we will pre-book a CPZ bay suspension through the Royal Borough's ePermit portal before we arrive.

Yes — The Junk Squad holds a full Environment Agency waste carriers licence and is registered with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea as a preferred commercial waste operator. All RBKC collections include a mandatory waste transfer note which we email you within 24 hours.

Absolutely. RBKC's own bulky waste service has 4–6 week lead times and only collects up to 5 items from the kerbside. The Junk Squad clears unlimited bulky items directly from inside the property on the same or next day, including dismantling wardrobes and bed frames on-site.

Westminster has the strictest CPZ rules in London — on-street loading in SW1, W1, W2, and Marylebone is often restricted to 20-minute windows. We will book and pay for a Westminster bay suspension (typically 3–6 hours) via the Westminster Connects portal ahead of your job, so the crew can load safely without a PCN.

Wandsworth borough-wide CPZ covers Battersea SW11, Clapham Junction, Putney SW15, and Wandsworth Town SW18 weekdays 08:00–18:30. Where required we pre-book a 3-hour Wandsworth CPZ bay suspension online — the booking reference is shown to the crew and no PCN is ever issued on a Junk Squad booked collection.

Disposal, recycling & licensing

4 questions

Yes. The Junk Squad holds a full Upper Tier Waste Carriers, Brokers and Dealers Licence issued by the Environment Agency — registration CBDU605793. A copy is available on request and every driver carries a laminated card on the vehicle. We are also registered as a commercial waste operator with most London boroughs.

Our audited 12-month landfill diversion rate is 92.6% — well above the UK trade average of ~70%. We achieve this with hand-sorting at the transfer station, separate plasterboard recovery, mattress recycling, WEEE segregation, and wood chip for biomass. We publish the diversion % on every digital waste transfer note we send.

Yes, required by UK law (Environmental Protection Act 1990). You will receive a digital PDF Waste Transfer Note within 24 hours of collection, including: the load description, weight, the receiving transfer station's permit number, our carriers licence CBDU605793, consignee signature, and the estimated recycling/landfill split. Keep this for HMRC, council audits, or property management compliance.

Under the Duty of Care (England and Wales) you — the householder or property owner — are jointly responsible and can be fined £400 on the spot, or prosecuted with unlimited fines if you cannot prove you passed the waste to a licensed carrier. Always ask for the Environment Agency registration number (ours is CBDU605793), keep the WTN, and never pay cash-in-hand to an unmarked van with no paperwork.

Wait & Load vs skips

4 questions

Most London boroughs require a skip permit (typically £25–£100 + 5–10 day lead time) to place any skip on the public highway, plus CPZ bay suspensions can add £60–£200 on top. Wait & Load arrives on your booking slot, parks for the load window, and drives straight to the transfer station — no permit, no street clutter, no 2-week skip sitting outside, no neighbours complaining. For small to mid-sized loads it is usually cheaper, faster, and more convenient than a skip.

For a single skip bag (~1 cubic yard, typically 8–10 rubble sacks or equivalent household junk) the bag cost + collection is usually comparable to or slightly cheaper than our minimum load. For anything more than one skip bag (2+ cubic yards, or bulky items like fridges and sofas that don't fit in a bag) Wait & Load is almost always cheaper, and much less work for you because we do all the lifting instead of you filling the bag.

Council bulky waste is cheaper per item but has three limitations you should know: (1) lead times of 4–6 weeks in most boroughs, (2) strict maximum of 3–5 items per booking, (3) collection from the kerbside only — you carry everything down yourself and leave it outside. The Junk Squad clears unlimited items from inside the property on the same or next day, including dismantling and sweep-up, at a comparable all-in price for most 2+ item jobs.

We are typically 15–25% cheaper than Clearabee and AnyJunk on equivalent part- and half-loads, and 30–40% cheaper for Wait & Load versus their branded man-in-van option, because we don't franchise crews or run a national call-centre markup. The trade-off is coverage: we only operate in London and Surrey, whereas the national brands cover most of the UK.

End-of-tenancy & property managers

2 questions

Yes. End-of-tenancy clearances are a core part of our weekly schedule. We clear tenant deposits, rubbish left by prior occupants, and can combine clearance with a handover clean if arranged. Invoices are addressed to the landlord or letting agent, and all pricing is logged for property management compliance.

Yes. We handle full-property probate clearances across London and Surrey with sensitivity. Crews are fully uniformed and briefed. We can work alongside your solicitor or estate agent, donate saleable goods to local charity shops where requested, and provide a full itemised load list for probate records on request.

Offices, shops & commercial

1 question

Yes. We offer ad-hoc and weekly commercial collections for offices, shops, cafés, restaurants, pubs, small warehouses, and serviced co-working spaces. Contracts can include regular 1x / 2x / 3x per week Wait & Load rounds plus separate dry-mixed recycling and food waste streams. All commercial customers receive monthly Duty of Care summaries for council audits.
