Construction waste is priced by weight and by tipping route, not by how full the van looks. That is why two jobs that look identical on site can differ by hundreds of pounds.
What drives the number:
- Hardcore and rubble are dense. A small area of a van can be a tonne, and every tonne goes over a weighbridge.
- Plasterboard has to be kept separate and tipped at a licensed facility, never mixed into general waste.
- Timber is bulky but light, so it fills volume without adding much weight.
- Mixed site waste usually attracts the highest gate fees because it needs sorting.
Practical ways to cut the bill:
- Keep hardcore, plasterboard and timber in separate piles. Sorted loads are cheaper to tip than mixed ones.
- Do not over-order. Cheap offcuts left in a corner still cost you to remove.
- Book the removal for the end of the strip-out, not week by week, so you pay for one trip instead of three.
We clear builders waste in Wimbledon and rubble in Mitcham as standard jobs, and we run rip out services in Westminster for full strip-outs where the plasterboard and kitchen units come out together.
If you are pricing a job and want a number before you start, send a photo of the pile plus a rough split by material. We will quote on that basis and confirm on the day at the van.
